After owning a DSLR, i really like the speed and convienience of the zoom ring instead of the button type zoom in-zoom out.

I prefer AA batteries compared to the rechargable Li-Ion ones. I buy the Dick Smith bulk batteries which are great for the price. I like the AA batteries because you can pick them up at the shop if you run out. But with the Li-Ion ones, you have to go home and recharge.

I was after a Panasonic Lumix FZ-50 for a long time. I liked the SLR style and zoom ring. After using a friends, i decided it was a little too expensive and bulky.

I then found out about the Finepix S8000. I was attracted to the 18 X optical zoom. Having owned a Finepix before, i know that these cameras have reasonable picture quality. Instead of a zoom ring, it has a swivel in front of the shutter release button, which is ok, but alot slower than an SLR's zoom ring.

After seeing photos taken with an Olympus DSLR, i instantly wanted the clarity that the cameras capture. I already have a DSLR, so decided to search for an Olympus point and shoot camera. The SP-560 is similar to the Finepix S8000.

The Olympus SP-570 has all the features that i am after. It has 20 X optical zoom and a zoom ring. This is the camera for me.

Call it crazy, but I had some strange calling to stop by Goodwill after work. I fumbled through a few p&s cameras, even passing up on a Yashica T4 Super for $12 as I already have one. I was about to leave when I saw a zoom lens behind the counter. It looked to be very clean and the price was good ($15). The only issue was it was a Olympus mount and I didn't own a Olympus SLR. Then I noticed a large plastic bag behind the counter and inside was a camera. I asked to take a look and found inside the bag an OM-1 w/ a 50mm 1.4 Zuiko lens, a Makinon 28mm 2.8 lens, a massive Vivitar 283 flash, a groovy camera strap and a few odds and ends. I have been wanting an OM for a while, so I plunked down $30 for the bag and then another $15 for the zoom. GAS strikes again.
